City starts with new sidewalk construction in Pelican Park

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with the construction of new pedestrian sidewalks along various roads within the Pelican Park area. Construction work started this week and is expected to be completed by Friday, 2 October 2026, if all goes according to plan and will take place between Monday and Friday from 07:30 to 17:00.
These new sidewalks in Pelican Park form part of the City’s ongoing investment in improving pedestrian infrastructure, accessibility and safety for all road users, part of how we keep all of Cape Town moving safely. We thank residents for their patience and cooperation over the next two months while these important improvements are carried out,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Construction will take place along the following roads:
- Old Strandfontein Road
- Lorikeet Street
- Roadrunner Street
- Weaver Street
- Starling Street
- Tinkerbird Street
- Lark Street
- Flycatcher Road
- Caracara Street
- Seedsnipe Road
- Woodswallow Street
Traffic accommodation measures will be implemented where required to ensure the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles through and around the work areas during construction.
